Guide: The best and most beautiful hotels in Berlin

I love Berlin. Love, love, love the city. That’s why I packed up a car with my belongings and drove south when I moved from Copenhagen to Berlin at 18. It turned into several wonderful years in a city I still adore.

During my time there, I spent much of my free time intensely researching the city, cycling from café to restaurant to hotel. That eventually turned into a published travel guide. Over the years, I’ve received countless questions about the best hotels in Berlin. I mention a handful in my main guide, but this is a dedicated hotel guide gathering the places I personally love, so you can find inspiration and book the perfect hotel for your next trip to Berlin.

The best boutique hotels in Berlin

Berlin is an interesting city. It’s huge, yet without a true center, and that’s no coincidence. Historically, Berlin consisted of many independent districts and suburbs that were later merged into one city. You can still feel that today. Each neighborhood functions almost like its own little town.

Many Berliners rarely leave their own neighborhood. Not because they don’t want to, but because everything they need is already there: cafés, bars, parks, shops, and culture. Every district has its own distinct atmosphere.

That’s why I’ve divided this guide by neighborhood. This way, you can choose your hotel based on how you want to experience the city – not just based on price or star ratings. I’ve focused exclusively on areas I would personally recommend staying in as a visitor — neighborhoods that give you the best base for exploring Berlin.

I’ve highlighted these hotels because they each offer beautiful interiors and a strong sense of atmosphere, something I personally value when staying in a hotel or a boutique hotel. I want to feel that “I could live here” when I check in. And I get that feeling at all of these places.

The best hotels in Mitte, Berlin

Circus Hotel / Hostel is one of the best community hotels in Berlin

Located right on lively Rosenthaler Platz, Circus Hotel and Circus Hostel sit across from one another. Both are wonderful, but Circus Hotel stands out as a beautifully designed independent boutique hotel with a warm, open atmosphere and strong community feel.

Travelers from all over the world gather here, and the hotel feels like a natural part of the neighborhood. Thoughtful details make the stay even better: bike rentals (I always cycle in Berlin and love experiencing the city that way), free yoga mats, a rooftop honesty bar in summer, access to a well-equipped fitness center next door, and “Behind the Curtain” events that offer unique insight into Berlin.

The staff helps create the welcoming community vibe, and you can easily strike up a conversation over breakfast, snacks, drinks, or dinner in the hotel’s restaurant and bar. The staff is a truly friendly team with a genuine heart for hospitality.

Telegraphenamt – a former telegraph station has been transformed to a beautiful hotel

Telegraphenamt is located in Berlin’s former telegraph station — a stunning historic building just steps from Museum Island. I was lucky enough to stay here shortly after it opened in 2023, and it was a wonderful experience.

Beyond the beautiful rooms, the hotel features a cozy café, an elegant restaurant, a chic bar, and even an outpost of König Galerie showcasing contemporary European art.

Chateau Royal – one of the most gorgeous hotels in town

Château Royal is one of those hotels I instantly fell in love with. I walked in and immediately thought: I would love to live here.

The interiors are intimate, artistic, and calm. With art on the walls, thoughtful details, and an atmosphere that feels more like a private home than a traditional hotel, Château Royal is perfect for anyone who appreciates aesthetics and understated luxury. It’s located right by Unter den Linden and Brandenburg Gate.

You don’t need to stay overnight to experience it — the hotel bar, restaurant, rooftop, and fireplace lounge are all open to visitors. The breakfast is also excellent, offering both a buffet and à la carte options.

Amano – hotel chain with great value for money and good locations

Amano is a classic Berlin hotel choice: stylish, urban, lively, and centrally located. It’s popular among both tourists and locals, and the hotel bars are often buzzing in the evenings.

It’s a great option if you want to stay central and enjoy a bit of atmosphere when returning to your hotel at night. Amano has expanded and now operates several properties across the city, many in excellent locations. I’ve personally stayed at Amano on Auguststraße, which also has a lovely rooftop.

The best hotels in Friedrichshain, Berlin

Michelberger – possibly my personal favorite hotel

Possibly my absolute favorite hotel in Berlin — and the place I spent the most time during my Berlin years. It was just around the corner from my apartment and is one of those places where locals hang out during the day.

There’s a cozy café perfect for co-working, a beautiful courtyard that’s especially lovely in summer, a great restaurant, and DJs playing in the evenings. And yes, it’s also a hotel.

The rooms are designed by various architects and designers (including Danish architect Sigurd Larsen). This is where you truly feel Berlin’s pulse and charm.

nhow Berlin right by the Spree

Colorful, playful, and bold in its expression. nhow focuses on music and creativity, and its location directly on the River Spree offers fantastic views. A great choice if you’re looking for a modern hotel with visual wow-factor and an international vibe — close to both Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg.

sly Berlin with a spa and a good restaurant

A newer hotel combining design, wellness, and calm in the middle of Friedrichshain. With a spa, fitness area, and a more relaxed atmosphere than many other hotels in the area, it’s ideal if you want to stay in a creative neighborhood while still having space to unwind. The hotel restaurant is also beautiful and worth visiting.

Locke at East Side Gallery with Spree views

Located along the longest preserved stretch of the Berlin Wall, Locke offers beautiful serviced apartments with kitchens and direct views of the Spree. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel at home or dream about moving in permanently. There’s a cozy brunch and coffee spot as well as a bar/restaurant called Anima. In good weather, you can sit on the terrace overlooking the river.

The Best Hotels in Charlottenburg/ Schöneberg/Tiergarten

Lulu Guldsmeden – Danish minimalism meets Bali

A Danish hotel in Berlin, located near Potsdamer Platz and within walking distance of Tiergarten park. Lulu Guldsmeden blends Scandinavian minimalism with Balinese warmth. Rooms feature playful details like stone-carved sinks, swings, kilim cushions, and loft beds in some categories. Despite its central location, it feels like stepping into a peaceful urban refuge where you can enjoy a beautiful stay in the beautiful rooms filled with quirky details.

Wilmina – a former female prison turned into a secret hideaway with sauna

Wilmina is something special. A former women’s prison transformed into a poetic boutique hotel with courtyards, spa, and restaurant. The atmosphere is calm and almost meditative. It’s a hotel you choose for the experience itself. With a slightly more tucked-away location, it’s perfect for slowing down, yet still well-connected by public transport. Wilmina also has an excellent bakery, Wilmina Brot.

SO/Berlin Das Stue – one of Berlin’s luxury hotels

One of Berlin’s best-known luxury hotels but in an understated way. Located right next to Tiergarten, it feels exclusive without being pretentious. Perfect for a romantic getaway or special occasion, surrounded by Berlin’s most beautiful green space.

The Hoxton with pink details

The Hoxton is a hotel brand I often enjoy visiting abroad because of its beautiful lobbies and lounges perfect for working remotely over coffee. Hoxton Berlin is no exception. Beyond its stunning public spaces, it offers elegant rooms with soft pink details and comfortable beds. Located in Charlottenburg, you’re close to shopping, KaDeWe, the Zoo, and Tiergarten.

25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin med udsigt til aberne

When 25hours opened in Berlin years ago, everyone flocked there, especially to the rooftop Monkey Bar, famous for its gin and tonics (naturally with Monkey 47 gin). But the real highlight? The hotel overlooks Berlin Zoo, giving you direct views of the monkeys and other animals. Even from certain bathrooms. A fun and very Berlin detail. The interior and design is fun, quirky and beautiful all at the same time.

The best hotels in Kreuzberg

Orania in the middle of the creative heart of the city

Located on Kreuzberg’s iconic Oranienstraße, Orania sits in a classic listed Berlin building that miraculously survived the war.

You’re in the heart of one of Berlin’s most creative neighborhoods, with Voo Store, galleries, and some of the city’s best cafés and restaurants right outside your door. The 41 rooms are beautifully decorated with furniture and textiles from around the world, creating a warm, salon-like atmosphere.

The best hotels in Prenzlauer Berg

Hotel Oderberger in a former public bath

Hotel Oderberger is iconic. Located in a former public bathhouse from 1902, it features a historic swimming pool, vaulted ceilings, and beautiful neo-Renaissance details. It’s a place you remember long after your trip ends. You can also visit the bathhouse and spa — including sauna, steam bath, and cold plunge — even if you’re not staying overnight. It’s absolutely worth it.

You’re right next to Kastanienallee, filled with great cafés and restaurants, and close to Mauerpark, which is especially lively on Sundays.

Numa – hotel rooms and apartments with easy check-in

Bali or Berlin? You might ask yourself that when stepping into Numa’s courtyard in Prenzlauer Berg.

Numa offers comfortable beds and small serviced apartments to suit your needs. Guests also receive access to Holmes Place fitness centers, including classes, gym facilities, pools, and spa areas. Numa has locations across Berlin, so you can choose the neighborhood that suits you best.

Gorki Apartments – hotel apartments where you feel at home

Perfect if you want to live like a local between Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg. The apartments are elegant and personal, located on a quiet side street that makes you forget you’re in the middle of Berlin.

An ideal choice if you want space, a kitchen, and a relaxed base — especially for longer stays or trips with family or friends.
